Description

Information about Gethsemane, Jerusalem itself will be provided after this announcement (Mary Anne Quaid). Due to the current situation and the ongoing war, I haven’t been able to guide tours in person as usual. However, I’m eager to continue sharing the rich and sacred history of the Holy Land through my videos. If you enjoy these journeys and would like to stay connected, I warmly invite you to subscribe to my YouTube channel, where I bring Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Israel to life from wherever you are. For more insights and updates, follow me on Facebook and Instagram — I regularly share additional content, stories, and behind-the-scenes moments you won’t want to miss. If you feel inspired to support my work, your generosity helps me keep these videos coming. Whether through a simple subscription, sharing with friends interested in Israel’s history, or by supporting me directly, every bit makes a difference. I also offer a personal touch: upon your request, I would be honored to pray for you at the Western Wall, light a candle in your name at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, or anywhere meaningful in the Holy Land. If you have any special personal requests, please reach out — I’m happy to respond and even create a dedicated video for you. Thank you so much for joining me on this journey. According to the New Testament, this is where Jesus spent His final night before His arrest—praying in deep anguish, abandoned by His disciples, and ultimately betrayed. The word Gethsemane comes from the Aramaic term “Gat Shmanim,” meaning “oil press.” The name reflects the ancient use of the area for pressing olives, and it also carries deep spiritual symbolism—representing the crushing emotional weight Jesus experienced that night. The Gospel accounts describe Jesus retreating into the garden to pray. Overwhelmed by sorrow, He fell to the ground and cried out to God. His words—“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death” (Matthew 26:38) and “Not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42)—reveal both His divine obedience and His very human suffering. Today, the garden contains olive trees believed by tradition to be descendants of those that stood there 2,000 years ago. Their gnarled trunks and silent presence add to the atmosphere of reverence and reflection. Next to the garden stands the Church of All Nations, also known as the Basilica of the Agony. Built over the rock where Jesus is believed to have prayed, its dark interior and star-filled ceiling evoke the solemnity of that moment. It invites visitors to enter into the mystery of Christ’s suffering and surrender. For Christian pilgrims, Gethsemane is more than a historical location—it is a place of spiritual encounter. A reminder of Jesus’ last hours, His deep sorrow, and His unwavering love. It challenges every believer with the same question He asked: “Could you not watch with Me one hour?”
