Description
How to troubleshoot a faulty heated mirror using a thermal imaging camera. I’ll be using my Kaiweets KTI-W01 thermal imaging camera. This is an excellent way to visually watch for temperature difference. The bluer colors indicate colder temperatures while the bright orange indicates hot temperatures.

It’s always a good idea to check the mirrors first before activating the heated mirror option in the vehicle. Heated mirrors of a small electrical element in behind the glass to help remove ice, frost, and condensation but can fail from age over time.
With the heated option off, we can see a temperature anywhere from 3.3c or 38f to 5.2c or 41f.
Now is activating the button and I’ll come back in a couple minutes, giving them time to warm up.
Going back I am seeing some warmer spots in the mirror, I’m seeing values anywhere from 5.7C or 42f to 18.6c or 65f. This does show the heated element on the mirrors is working, however, the driver’s side is showing a lesser value so it’s mostly likely wearing out quicker than the passenger side mirror. If you don’t notice any temperature change, then your heated mirror circuit isn’t working, and then could be anything from a faulty switch to a faulty mirror element or anything in between.
