Description
Meghalaya, the land of clouds, is well documented for its scenic landscapes and plentiful rainfall.
To translate this abundance of rainfall into availability of drinking water for communities, in 2024, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the CSR arm of ICICI Bank, stepped in by introducing the Springwater Harvesting System.
Through this initiative, water from hilltop springs is diverted through pipelines, collected and stored in tanks, filtered, and then distributed to nearby homes.
With this, communities across villages in Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills do not have to walk kilometres to fetch water.
They now have access to year-round safe drinking water in the vicinity of their villages: improving quality of life and strengthening communities across generations.
🌱 By March 31, 2025, these water conservation efforts resulted in:
• 225 km of pipeline network connecting 78 springs to 45 villages
• 4.5 million litres of annual water storage created
• 30,000+ lives benefitted across the region
This initiative has helped ensure year-round access to clean drinking water, improving quality of life and strengthening communities across generations.
