Description

On Oct. 27, 2025, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban reports from Zalingi, Central Darfur, Sudan, where children are living through one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Displaced by conflict, mothers share their dreams of being able to feed and educate their children. "Our life is difficult," one mother says. "We live with great suffering and we have nothing." UNICEF is on the ground in Darfur, working with partners to provide health support for children, including vaccination and treatment of severe acute malnutrition, repairing and rehabilitating water systems, and providing psychosocial support to children. "The siege of Al Fasher has left 260,000 people trapped, while another 500,000 people have fled to neighboring villages and towns like Tawila," Chaiban says. "What is needed now is an end to the siege, an end to the war and free humanitarian access so that the population of Darfur, the population of Kordofan, all of Sudan can have a sense of relief, a sense of normalcy."
