അഗസ്ത്യകൂടം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അഗസ്ത്യമല പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായ ഒരു കൊടുമുടിയാണ്. 1868 മീറ്റർ ഉയരമുണ്ട് അഗസ്ത്യകൂടത്തിന്. കേരളത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയുന്ന ഈ കൊടുമുടി തമിഴ്നാടുമായി അതിർത്തി പങ്കിടുന്നു. തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ തിരുനെൽവേലി, കന്യാകുമാരി എന്നീ ജില്ലകളിലും, കേരളത്തിലെ തിരുവനന്തപുരം, കൊല്ലം, പത്തനംതിട്ട എന്നീ ജില്ലകളിലുമായാണ് അഗസ്ത്യമലനിരകൾ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. [1] കുറ്റിച്ചൽ പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ ആണ് അഗസ്ത്യകൂടം. അഗസ്ത്യമല ഒരു തീർത്ഥാടനകേന്ദ്രം കൂടിയാണ്. ഇവിടെ അഗസ്ത്യമുനിയെ ആരാധിക്കാൻ ഭക്തർ എത്താറുണ്ട്. ഹിന്ദുപുരാണത്തിലെ സപ്തർഷികളിൽ ഒരാളാണ് അഗസ്ത്യമുനി. അഗസ്ത്യമലയുടെ മുകളിൽ അഗസ്ത്യന്റെ ഒരു പൂർണ്ണകായപ്രതിമയുണ്ട്. ഇവിടെ പൂജകളും മറ്റും ഭക്തർ നടത്താറുണ്ട്. Agastya Mala (or Agasthyamalai or Agastyarkoodam) is one of the peaks in the Western Ghats lies in Tirunelveli District of Tamilnadu, bordering Kerala, India.[2] This peak is a part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve which lies on the border between the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli district. The perennial Thamirabarani River originates from the eastern side of the range and flows into the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. It is 1,868-metres (6,129 ft) tall.[citation needed] Agastyaarkoodam is a pilgrimage centre for devotees of the Hindu sage Agastya, who is considered to be one of the seven rishis (Saptarishi) of Hindu Puranas. In Tamil traditions, Agastya is considered as the father of the Tamil language and the compiler of the first Tamil grammar called Agattiyam or Akattiyam.[3] There is a small stone statue of Agathiyar at the top of the peak and the devotees can offer pujas.
