India has taken another step towards ethanol-blended fuels with the launch of E85 petrol, which contains 85% ethanol and 15% petrol. However, E85 is NOT meant for regular motorcycles, scooters, or cars. It can only be used in specially designed Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) that are engineered to handle such a high ethanol concentration. At the same time, many riders are already using E20 petrol (20% ethanol blend), which is now widely available across India. While E20 helps reduce fuel imports and emissions, older vehicles that are not E20-compatible may experience issues such as reduced fuel efficiency, rubber and plastic component wear, fuel system corrosion, and performance changes over time.
