Our Young Horses' Big Day Out | Mesa's First Time In The Mountains

Today is a big step in our young horse journey as we take our draft cross filly Mesa out for her first real mountain adventure. Even though Mesa has been hauled before, she’s never been ponied out on the trail, so this ride is all about building confidence, exposure, and a solid mental foundation. We pony Mesa off our trusted mule Reata, with Clyde along for support, and talk through how we set young horses up for success when taking them outside the arena for the first time. We also dive into gear setup, including getting a brand new britchen from Reed Veit Saddlery fitted and ready, and why proper fit matters when you’re heading into real country. Along the way, we share some exciting news about riding my mustang Rooster out of the corral for the very first time, plus updates on remodeling projects around our place and where we’re at in our ongoing property search.
