"The Foundation of the City of Mercy" Vilnius, Lithuania Archbishop of Kraków, historian and theologian, author of the books Celibacy, The Scandal of Mercy, and others, actively engaged in ecumenical dialogue. In 2025, he participated in the renewal of the European Ecumenical Charter. He actively promotes a synodal Church, emphasizing the participation, responsibility, and sense of community among the faithful. Ryś is one of the most prominent advocates of Christian–Jewish dialogue in Poland, consistently speaking about historical memory and repentance. As a pastor and cardinal, he strives for a Church that is close to people, sensitive to human weakness, and open to the challenges of the modern world.
