George Pino’s defense lawyer began his opening statement Monday afternoon. They claim that Pino did not intend to hurt anyone that day and that he would never have put the young girls' lives in jeopardy. Pino is accused of killing 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez while he was operating a boat. His lawyers stated that he tried to save Lucy and got her from under the boat, but his rescue efforts failed.
