Description
Jeffrey and Lanaemarshe Grant were sentenced on Thursday after previously being convicted in the 2025 fatal Cleveland shooting of 10-year-old Kaden Coleman.
Jeffrey Grant of Akron was sentenced first to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 57.5 years. Shortly after, Lanaemarshe Grant was sentenced to 18-23.5 years.
"A 10-year-old child lost his life to senseless violence. Today’s sentences ensure those responsible for Kaden Coleman’s death will spend years behind bars, and our community is safer because of it," said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley following the sentence.
Jeffrey Grant declined to make a statement during the hearing, but Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Shaughnessy addressed the courtroom before announcing the sentence.
“I can’t agree more with the parties that Kaden had absolutely nothing to do with this. He is truly an innocent victim. I'm very sorry to his family. It's a tragic loss, and it obviously should never have happened,” Shaughnessy said.
