Deviation was 1.5Khz, now 2.2Khz (2.5khz absolute peak). Frequency on ch20 was 27.79074, now the correct 27.79125Mhz. Squelch both in manual & auto was too harsh. AM modulation increased from 72% to 91%. That should work better for him!
