“I LOST MY ENGINE!” | DH. 82 Tiger Moth Engine Failure & Perfect Landing

On 29 March 2026, during Warbirds Over Scone 2026 at Scone Memorial Airport (NSO/YSCO), this de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth (VH-PCL, serial 3786) experienced an engine failure while performing a flight display. What followed was a textbook demonstration of airmanship. The pilot calmly managed the situation, positioning the aircraft to join mid-field downwind before flying a precise and disciplined circuit. With no engine power, the Tiger Moth executed a clean deadstick landing, touching down safely and rolling out under full control. In a remarkable display of skill and composure, the aircraft was then taxied clear of the runway without power and brought to a stop on the apron. Standing just a few metres away, I witnessed the final moments up close—the pilot, relaxed and smiling, later remarking simply: “I lost my engine.” This video captures the entire sequence—from the first signs of trouble to a safe and professional recovery—highlighting the calm decision-making and flying skill that define true airmanship.
