Description
Arriving at the isthmus on Macquarie Island, we faced challenging 2-meter swells that made boarding the zodiacs an adventure in itself. The boarding platform moved with the ship, leaving us either waist-deep in water or 2 meters above the zodiac, depending on the swell. Despite the conditions, the process felt safe and well-managed thanks to the clear instructions from the guides and sailors. I used my @raybanmeta glasses to capture video, which proved ideal for keeping both hands free—truly a perfect use case for the technology.
Macquarie Island, under Australian jurisdiction and part of Tasmania, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its extraordinary biodiversity and geological features. It is located about halfway between Tasmania and Antarctica, and receives less than 1000 visitors per year.
