Description

Mostly mild air has started off across the region with the morning temperatures once again vastly being warmer than average. Clouds are passing through with moisture aloft coming in from the Pacific with rain showers in the northwest half of the region with possible lightning strikes and snow in the high elevations. With the drop in the jet stream, the southwesterly flow aloft will translate more to a northwesterly flow with colder air moving in. Air temperatures in the north are starting off mostly from around the upper 20s to the 40s, while elsewhere to the southwest, air temperatures are mostly ranging from around the 40s to around 60°. Many areas from eastern New Mexico to the Pecos River Valley area will range from the 50s to low 80s, from north-northwest to south-southeast from high to low elevation. The northern higher elevations will mostly range from the high 20s to the low 50s, while the northern valley floors to western and central areas will mostly range from the 50s to the 70s. Stronger winds from the approaching system, which will blow some dust, will elevate the fire threat even more later today in southeastern areas especially. However, the drop in the jet stream will bring in some better rain chances moving east, with mountain peak snow, as well as colder air. West-southwesterly upper-level winds will then lead to briefly warmer air before another gusty but drier cold front moves in on Good Friday.
