Ruffle Top & Balloon Pants Set | Baby Top With Pant Cutting & Stitching (Easy) Welcome back! Today I’m stitching this cute pink ruffle-sleeve ruched top with balloon/jogger pants—a comfy, stylish co-ord set just like the picture. Let’s start! Materials: • Top: Cotton jersey/knit 0.5–0.75 m, knit bias/rib for binding, 2 ties (or cord) 45–50 cm each, matching thread. • Pants: Printed cotton/viscose 1–1.25 m, 1” (2.5 cm) elastic for waist, ½” (1.2 cm) elastic for ankles, optional drawstring. Measurements: Chest • Top length • Shoulder • Armhole • Waist • Hip • Outseam (waist to ankle) • Crotch depth. Add 1 cm seam allowance everywhere, 2 cm hem. ⸻ TOP – Cutting (Sleeveless with Ruffle & Side Ruche) 1. Front & Back: Cut basic T-shirt shape (slight crop). Width = chest ÷ 4 + 1–1.5” ease. 2. Neck/Armhole Bindings: Knit strips 2.5–3 cm wide. 3. Armhole Ruffles: 2 strips each (armhole length × 1.5), width 4–5 cm. 4. Side Casings: 2 strips same height as top side seam, width 4 cm (folded to make channels). Cut 2 ties/cords. TOP – Stitching 1. Join shoulder seams; press. 2. Neck binding: attach, fold in, topstitch. 3. Ruffles: gather strips, place along armhole, then bind the armholes to sandwich ruffle. 4. Side seams: sew front & back together. 5. Ruche channels: on each side, place casing strip over side seam; stitch both long edges to form a tube. 6. Insert ties from bottom, pull to create gathers; knot the ends. 7. Turn bottom hem, stitch and press. ⸻ PANTS – Cutting (Balloon/Jogger) 1. Cut 2 leg pieces (front/back combined) with generous width: • Top width = hip ÷ 2 + 2–3” ease. • Mark crotch depth = hip ÷ 4 + 2 cm; curve for front/back. • Taper slightly towards ankle; keep extra length for elastic casing. 2. Waistband casing: either fold top edge 3.5–4 cm, or cut a separate band. 3. Ankle casings: add 3 cm at hem for elastic. PANTS – Stitching 1. Sew front crotch and back crotch seams. 2. Join side seams and inseam. 3. Fold and stitch waist casing; leave gap; insert 1” elastic (measure waist − 2”), join ends; close gap. Optional: add a center stitch channel and insert a drawstring. 4. Fold ankle casings; insert ½” elastic (ankle − 1”); close gaps. 5. Press all seams; even the hemline if needed. ⸻ Final Touch: Pair the top and pants—adorable ruffles, comfy balloon fit!
