In June 2025, Vivek (name changed to protect identity) had a medical emergency at home, for which he took a payday loan from an NBFC. To repay that one loan, he took out more loans. By December 2025, he was caught in a loan trap after he was unable to repay the subsequent loans due to their high interest rates. What followed were hundreds of threatening calls every day and frequent home visits from several recovery agents. One of the NBFCs, however, went a step ahead. They shared his loan details and the video he had submitted for KYC with his employer, which, he alleges, led to his termination.
