Seashell Vanitas in Oils

Painting still lives is a great way to improve upon your skills. Sometimes it’s a little hard dragging the painting kit outside to work plein air, especially over winter… So a still life painting is a great alternative! I grabbed every seashell in my collection. You can’t just paint one right? I wanted something dark and moody and lit consistently, but mimicking natural light.
