Osmeña said hauling garbage to distant towns would significantly increase collection and transportation costs, which could negatively affect the city’s budget. He cautioned that this may impact key programs and services, including city scholarships and the operations of the Cebu City Medical Center. The vice mayor’s statement comes amid ongoing negotiations by Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival with several local government units, including Aloguinsan, Bogo City, and Minglanilla, following the closure of the Binaliw landfill. Osmeña stressed that Cebu City should instead explore innovative and sustainable solutions for solid waste management.
