Description
Yesterday, I went back out to Memphis, TN, for their weekly siren test. Admittedly, I wasn't planning on going out here this week due to the fact that the forecast was initially looking unfavorable, but when I checked it again on Monday, I saw that it had cleared-up quite a bit! As such, I decided to hop on out here (after doing some railfanning in the morning on my way out) to this old and rare ACA P-15C siren on top of Sharpe Elementary School. Just after 3:30 PM, this siren wound on up and did the typical minute of alert! Thankfully, this one still sounds fairly loud and healthy, though a few other local enthusiasts noted that it seems to be a bit underpowered. Definitely nice to finally get one of these rare coded P-15s here in Memphis filmed, I'm definitely gonna start trying to get to the others around the city as well. This siren also still retains all three of its original Civil Defense stickers on it too, which is pretty neat to see. It appears that the projector cone on this siren is mounted upside-down as well, given that the two stickers on the sides of it are upside-down. Also, apologies about the end, I didn't realize the siren was still coasting a bit when I began to zoom out initially.
As a side note real fast, @CoolH99 was able to get the Thunderbolt 1000 siren on top of Lausanne Collegiate School filmed on this day (and an unexpected close-up shot of it as well), meaning that Memphis is down to only one unrecorded (active) Thunderbolt in their entire system! That being said, we're still going to have to wait on it, as it's Fire Station 13's 'bolt, which, as far as anyone's aware currently, it's still sadly down for maintenance. Hopefully that unit will be up and running before too long though.
Memphis, TN's sirens are tested every Wednesday at 3:30 PM, *very strictly* weather permitting.
