Description
The celebration of an Indigenous Peoples Day or Ibaloy Day may soon be institutionalized through a proposed ordinance in the province of Benguet, according to Vice Governor Maria Rose Fong-wan Kepes.
In an interview on Feb. 17, Kepes said that once Board Member Lady Charmaine Likigan initiates the drafting of the proposed ordinance, it will be referred to the appropriate committee for review and deliberation. She explained that if the ordinance receives a favorable recommendation, gains the consensus of the provincial board members, and secures the support of the provincial executive governor, the observance of an Ibaloy or Indigenous Peoples Day as an official special event in the province may soon be realized.
