How to Shoot a Sun Star with Austin James Jackson

Capturing the perfect sun star in your photography takes more than a simple point and shoot. There are numerous things to consider to capture the best looking sun-star. First, stop your aperture down to create a more defined star with longer points. Next, make sure the sun is partially obscured by the edge of another object. Ideally, your camera’s lens should be partially in sun and partially in shade. Then properly expose the image and test different aperture settings to find the best looking sun star. This can take some practice, so be sure you’re ready on location before the sun comes up so you have lots of time for trial and error!
