Description
Unreported World is from Minnesota, where a surge in ICE immigration raids has left children traumatised across the city of Minneapolis. Reporter Paul McNamara investigates the lasting impact on children and families still living in fear.
Operation Metro Surge resulted in 4,000 arrests across the state. While authorities say they were targeting criminals, many of those detained had no convictions, and entire communities have been pushed into hiding.
McNamara meets families too frightened to leave their homes to discover how the isolation and mass arrests have impacted young children. We meet eight-year-old Tulasi who describes panic attacks at school, fearing she’d return home to find her family gone.
At a community centre supporting Latino families, volunteers help Martha and her five-year-old daughter Helen make a terrible choice, after her father was arrested and detained hundreds of miles away. McNamara follows their self-deportation back to their home of Ecuador, a country they fled due to violence, in the hope they can bring their family back together.
