Description
It was a long couple of weeks for Hawaii High School Baseball as many teams across the islands were unable to play a game for more than 14 days. The Mid-Pacific Owls were one of those programs who had to wait.
"We've been wanting to play on this field for like a couple weeks now, and we felt like we were just like cold," said Mid-Pacific Senior Kylan Chun.
But in their first game back, the Owls took down the defending state champs in dramatic fashion.
"It felt pretty good. I knew off the bat it was going to drop," said Owls Sophomore Eli Iopa.
In the bottom of the 7th inning with a tied game, Iopa stepped up to the plate with two runners on and crushed a ball into deep right center field that dropped allowing for the game winning run to cross the plate.
With a win like that after a long break from playing, the Owls are confident in their abilities and scrappiness to compete with the best teams in the state.
"We always just talk to each other about it every single time, coming from the dugout, it's always like, you got to believe. You got to believe. You got to know that we can win," said Mid-Pacific Senior Brayden Shizuru.
The Owls have won their first two games back since the weather postponed multiple games. Their next matchup is set for April 2nd against Damien.
