Lt. Ron Willkens provides information on an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 6600 block of Harwin Dr. Preliminary information: At approximately 2:00am on Thursday, October 16th, HPD officers conducted a traffic stop at the above address. At approximately 2:10 as they were completing the traffic stop, officers witnessed a shooting down the alley from them. A man was shooting toward a group of people in a makeshift homeless encampment. One officer discharged his duty weapon multiple times, stopping the shooting. Officers were able to detain one man, believed to be the shooter. That suspect was uninjured. Three other people were shot and transported to local hospitals: 1) Pregnant female, 28, shot in lower back and leg 2) Male, 35, shot in ankle 3) Male, 57, shot in leg Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or CrimeStoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
