Description

This video follows a night of thermal fox hunting and professional fox control in rural Australia, where foxes are responding strongly to the call. Some encounters happen extremely close to the stand, with a few foxes coming right in to around 6–7 metres which always makes for intense moments when calling predators at night. Throughout this hunt I am moving between stands on a 79Bike Falcon GT electric dirt bike. The silent nature of the bike makes it a very interesting platform for predator control work, allowing movement around a property without the engine noise of a quad or ute carrying across the paddock. For this night I am also running the Thermtec Oryx 650L thermal optic. Rather than doing a quick first impressions video, I have been putting this unit through proper field use during real fox control work. At the end of the video I share my honest thoughts and observations after spending several nights behind it. The rifle used in this video is my Tikka T3X Blackout chambered in .223 Remington, a setup that continues to prove extremely effective for fox control work. As always, this work is carried out on privately owned farms as part of ongoing predator control programs to reduce pressure on livestock and native wildlife. Thanks for watching EDGE OF THE OUTBACK. Foxes and feral cats are two of Australia’s most destructive invasive predators. Feral cats alone are estimated to kill between 1.5 and 2 billion native animals every year. Foxes heavily impact lamb survival and native wildlife populations across agricultural regions. Both species breed rapidly and adapt extremely well to farmland and bush environments. Effective control programs are essential to protect livestock, protect farming operations and help safeguard native wildlife.
