"Yellowmeads" & “The Interloper” - a double bill directed by Christian Burnett On the London council estate of Yellowmeads, the people are changing. A mother grows increasingly concerned for her daughter's safety, while an otherworldly parasitic intelligence draws ever closer. 📶 Connect with the Filmmakers: https://www.instagram.com/yellowmeadsfilm https://www.youtube.com/@ChristianBurnett 🎬 Director’s Statement: Britain's crumbling social housing scene has been ravaged by government mismanagement and greed. In researching the experience of council estate residents in gentrified areas, the recurring themes were isolation, alienation, and loss of cultural identity. Yellowmeads was our way of extruding those experiences into the realm of the paranormal, distilling the fear and anger of that real world injustice into something acutely shocking and phantasmagoric on screen. One morning, a pea soup fog turned the high rise blocks of the location into these towering ghost ships, so I scrambled to get my camera kit together and grab some exteriors. It was like exploring another planet. A familiar neighbourhood became an eerie and hostile otherworld where something cosmic and terrifying was lurking around every corner. I wanted to make a companion piece or B-Side for the short film 'Yellowmeads', combining voice-over narration with a film form that approached something more like a video essay or documentary than a conventional narrative short. I was also inspired by the multi-talented Adie Mueller, who brought the voiceless character of The Stranger to life so well in Yellowmeads. She did a phenomenal job of translating the eeriness of that physical performance into spoken word narration for 'The Interloper'. We had a surplus of video footage from the shoot, which we expanded upon with stock video, to create a sort of experimental video that could show the planet Earth and human life from an otherworldly perspective. It was a really fun and productive exercise in expanding the universe of a short film; now I hope people can enjoy both films together. 🎞️ About the Film: Director: Christian Burnett Producer: Marion Cottave Cast: Caroline Nield Adie Mueller Tina Nya Darren Stoneham Connect with DUST: Website 🌐: http://www.watchdust.com Follow Us on Facebook 👍: https://www.facebook.com/watchdust/ Follow Us on Instagram 📷: https://www.instagram.com/watchdust/ Follow us on TikTok 📱: https://www.tiktok.com/@watch_dust #DUST #scifi #shortfilm Submit Your Short Film: https://filmfreeway.com/alterdustsubmissions NOTE: Only completed shorts will be considered.
