The ABB NASCAR EV prototype is a high-performance electric race car developed through the NASCAR Impact program, a sustainability initiative aimed at achieving net-zero operating emissions by 2035. Unveiled at the 2024 Chicago Street Race, the prototype was created in collaboration with Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota. The vehicle features a generic crossover utility body made from sustainable flax-based composite materials. Underneath, it utilizes a modified Next Gen chassis equipped with three electric motors—one in the front and two in the rear. This all-wheel-drive configuration produces approximately 1,360 horsepower, or 1,000 kW. It is powered by a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery and employs regenerative braking, which makes it particularly effective for short ovals and road courses. While NASCAR has emphasized that this prototype is not a replacement for traditional internal combustion engines, the car serves as a rolling laboratory for electrification technology and consumer education.
