Description
This DriverReviews review answers whether the Volvo EX60 electric SUV is genuinely a game changer, or simply another premium EV with a big range figure. Vicki Butler-Henderson drives the entry-level P6 version in Spain to find out how it performs on the road, how practical it is, and whether it has enough Scandi charm to stand out.
What is the Volvo EX60?
The Volvo EX60 is a midsize electric SUV available in three power options: P6, P10 and P12 AWD. Vicki drives the entry-level P6, which produces 374hp, uses rear-wheel drive and covers 0 to 62mph in 5.9 seconds. The range-topping P12 AWD produces 680hp and almost 800Nm of torque, cutting the 0 to 62mph time to 3.9 seconds. It also carries Volvo’s headline 503-mile range claim, the longest in its class.
How does the Volvo EX60 compare to rival electric SUVs?
The EX60 competes directly with premium electric SUVs such as the BMW iX3, combining long-range capability, fast charging and Volvo’s typically safety-led approach. It can add up to 211 miles of range in 10 minutes on a 400kW fast charger, while bidirectional charging allows the car to send energy back to a home, the grid or external equipment when needed.
Is the Volvo EX60 practical?
The EX60 offers 523 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place, increasing to 1,674 litres with them folded. Towing capacity is 2,000kg on rear-wheel-drive versions, rising to 2,400kg on all-wheel-drive models. Inside, it features Volvo’s HuginCore safety system, Google Gemini AI, a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system with Dolby Atmos, and a world-first adaptive seatbelt.
What tyres does the Volvo EX60 use?
The Volvo EX60 tested here sits on 22-inch alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Elect tyres. The sidewall carries the VOL marking, showing that these are Volvo-specific fitment tyres developed for the car.
Is the Volvo EX60 a game changer?
With a 503-mile range claim, 400kW rapid charging, bidirectional charging and some very Volvo safety technology, the EX60 has plenty to shout about. Vicki gives her full verdict on whether it lives up to the game-changing claim.
