Here's why I think everyone should be doing cable lateral raises with the cable sets at hand height.
Yes, it has to do with having a more lengthened resistance profile but no it is not that a lengthened resistance profile is inherently more beneficial for hypertrophy for the side delts. More so is that the most common issue lifters face on this exercise is having more trap involvement than they'd like.
And while we can't eliminate trap involvement, we can minimize it. We can make it so that the hardest part of the movement is in the part of the range of motion where the traps are less likely involved.
So we basically focus the exercise on the part where trap involvement is least likely (arm down) and then have the part of the range of motion where trap involvement is more likely become easier (arm up)
