He addressed the issues of his time. He asked compelling questions. He was a great story teller too. And this last point is no passing observation, because at the heart of the gospel are the stories Jesus told that still provoke the curious and cynical alike. Stories of unlikable characters. Stories of everyday encounters. Stories with preposterous implications. This year we return to the most scandalous stories Jesus told — those we’ve come to call his parables of grace.
