Was the cross an accident?

The cross was never an accident. Tomorrow, Christians around the world will pause to remember what was accomplished on a hill outside Jerusalem — and Pastor Chuck Swindoll wants us to sit with the full weight of it. "He died for the very people who covered his body with saliva and ripped the skin off his back with the scourge. Now that is grace." That's not poetic language. That's history. And it's the kind of grace that doesn't make sense by any human measure. We talk about grace easily — sometimes too easily. But Good Friday invites us to slow down and remember what grace actually cost. The Savior who bore our sinful nature in His own body didn't die for deserving people. He died for us. "God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." — Romans 5:8 As you head into Good Friday, don't rush past the cross on your way to Sunday. Let it do what it was always meant to do — humble you, break you, and fill you with the kind of hope only the gospel can give.
