If they hesitate or try to begin without resetting, walk away. 2.⁠ ⁠Get out and monitor the entire process Step out of the vehicle, stand next to the attendant and dispenser, and watch the meter from start to finish. This prevents distractions, start-stop tricks, or other manipulations. 3.⁠ ⁠Ask for odd / non-round amounts Avoid ₹500, ₹1000, or “full tank.” Request specific amounts like ₹575 or exactly 22.5 litres. Odd figures force accurate manual dispensing and reduce short-measurement risks. For full tanks, know your car’s real capacity. 4.⁠ ⁠Demand the 5-litre certified jar test if suspicious If the meter, flow, or anything feels off, firmly ask for a 5-litre test in the stamped measuring jar. Watch it fill to the exact mark. Refusal, excuses, or no certified jar = leave immediately, note the station details, and report. 5.⁠ ⁠Check the bill and track your mileage Take the receipt right away and compare litres/amount with what you saw on the meter.
