Description
This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2026 Honda Prelude hybrid sports coupe.
The 2026 Honda Prelude is powered by a 2L 4-cylinder two motor hybrid system with a direct drive unit, there is no transmission in the Prelude. It has a combined 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque, FWD only.
This is unique because it’s a sports coupe with a hybrid system. The 2L Atkinson gas engine acts as a generator and keeps the battery charged, the two electric motors drive the wheels. It has Type R chassis components, and the track width is the same width as the Type R but the wheelbase is shorter than the Type R.
The 2026 Honda Prelude has agile handling assist, an adaptive damper system and a Brembo front 4-piston braking system, Prelude shares its front and rear brakes with the Type R. The calipers have both the Prelude and Brembo logos finished in blue. There are four drive modes, comfort, GT, Sport is your more aggressive and Individual. The debut of Honda S+ shift is supposed to simulate a performance transmission but still provide everyday comfort. Honda says it precisely manages the engine RPM and integrates the paddle shifters for quick simulated gearshift responses and enhanced engine sounds to increase engagement. Honda plans to introduce S+ shift in other hybrids. Stay tuned for our driving impressions.
The 2026 Honda Prelude comes standard with a 10.2” digital driver display, 9” touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, 8-speaker Bose Sound system, heated front seats, 6-way manual driver’s seat, 4-way manual passenger seat, leather trimmed upholstery and Honda Sensing Driver Assist Technology.
The 2026 Honda Prelude is pricey and there is just one trim offering, it includes, freight, PDI and fees in Canada, $52,961. In the US, MSRP $42,000. Add $500 US if you want the two-tone look.
2026 Honda Prelude fuel economy is terrific, 5L/100 km, 46 MPG city and 5.7L/100 km, 41 MPG highway.
