Brazil moves to limit abortions for child sexual assault victims

"This bill is suspending the right to humane care for these girls, these minors." Hundreds marched in São Paulo Tuesday against a measure approved by Brazil’s Senate that will block access to legal abortion services for children and adolescents under 14 — even in cases of sexual assault. The legislative decree bill passed in a remote session on June 2 and overturned medical care guidelines established in 2024.
