Opening of the Cagayan Provincial Athletic Association (CPAA) Meet 01/08/2026

Camalaniugan Sports Complex, Camalaniugan, Cagayan January 8, 2026 “We will continue to encourage sports amongst our young people because as far as I’m concerned, there is no downside to sport,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated as he graced the opening of the 2026 Cagayan Provincial Athletic Association (CPAA) Meet in Camalaniugan, Cagayan on 8 January 2026, emphasizing the importance of promoting sports among the youth. In his message, President Marcos Jr. encouraged the athletes to give their best and embrace the spirit of sportsmanship. He noted that sports serve as an excellent training ground for building resilience, discipline and camaraderie, saying that all the skills, habits and lessons learned while participating in sports will help them in life and guide them in their future endeavors. “Patuloy pa rin ang palakasan dahil ito ang pinakamagandang training para sa ating mga kabataan dahil natututo tayo ng disiplina, natututo tayo ng camaraderie," the President emphasized. To further empower the youth, the government is reincorporating sports administration into the Department of Education (DepEd). The CPAA Meet, which runs from 7 to 10 January 2026, brings together delegations from 28 municipalities, with Camalaniugan serving as the host this year. Organized by the DepEd Schools Division Office Cagayan, the event is supported by both the Camalaniugan local government and the Cagayan Provincial Government. The annual provincial sports competition also serves as a selection venue for provincial entries to the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association Meet, scheduled for April 2026.
