Did you know bunnies eat their 💩?

Yes it is true rabbits eat their own poop 💩 but before you get grossed out it's actually super crucial for their health! Rabbits produce two types of poops and they specifically eat what is called their cecotropes! They do this because eating such a high fibrous diet isn't always easy to digest and by the time it's gone through their intestines it still contains tons of nutrients rabbits need. Therefore to solve that problem rabbits will eat their cecotropes to digest them for a second time. These look different from a regular poop, they are softer and look like a bunch of pebbles stuck together. Rabbits typically will eat them right away and I've learned to recognize the classic cecotrope mouth chew 😂
