Description
Marcel turns up in the back yard about the same time most days fortunately it is usually around the same time that i arrive which makes everything easier.he is not necessarily looking for food although he will nearly always accept food, hungry or not, which he will then go off and stash it somewhere in the yard and depending on what it is,the morsel may end up buried or poked under something.he is always poking his beak into everything and anything, his beak feels surprisingly "soft" to the touch, not unlike a regrown fingernail & must harden with age to survive some of the chores that older birds undertake such as pecking large branches so hard as to be heard from the ground making the beak a formidable weapon.he is still unsteady when roosting even though it looks as though the toe with the missing/deformed talon seems to be working properly,in that the toe "wraps"around whatever it is that it is standing on
Marcel was found on the ground in the last week of july after a very stormy night after ringing a few places i was instructed to take him to specific vet surgery where i was advised that he was a raven, healthy, unlikely to have fallen to ground & he was a fledgling & " should be returned to where he was found his parents will look after him ".
unfortunately this was not the case and it was 4/5 days before the parents came near him,he also had a talon missing from a rear toe that became quite swollen & infected in the weeks that followed needing treatment,it was paw paw ointment that cleared it up after having no success with other conventional treatments.
