Description
This week's ASB Good as Gold recipient is Stu Brickland of Pukehina.
He is the driving force behind a community initiative that has gone from a few mates and their classic cars to one of the Bay of Plenty’s most anticipated annual events. A long-time local, Stu helped establish the Pukehina Surf'n'Sand Autorama with all proceeds supporting the local Surf Life Saving Club and Volunteer Fire Brigade. Now attracting more than 500 vehicles and over 10,000 visitors each year, the event has outgrown its original park and moved to school grounds and neighbouring paddocks. A full-time plumber, Stu is known for always making time to help others, quietly giving back wherever he can.
Thanks to his commitment and leadership, more than $150,000 has been returned to the Pukehina community over four years, allowing the supported organisations to purchase essential equipment to keep the community safe. ASB is proud to recognise Stu as this week’s ASB Good as Gold recipient with $10,000.

Due to the immense volume of comments 1News videos attract, we've made the decision to hold all comments for review, and in some cases, turn them off entirely.
1News is a media outlet based in New Zealand, and could potentially be liable for any comments that defame others or breach New Zealand law. Our content receives thousands of comments each day, and we lack the capacity to moderate that volume without holding comments for review.
This decision ensures that our platform remains a safe and compliant space for all viewers. We appreciate your understanding and continued support.
