Description
Ryan O'Hearn just turned in one of the most incredible individual performances you'll ever see, and arguably the most impressive single-game performance in Pittsburgh Pirates history.
3 homers, 10 RBis. Yep, you heard that right.
On Tuesday night at PNC Park, O'Hearn cranked a grand slam in the bottom of the first, added a three-run shot in the third, and then popped another three-run homer in the sixth, making him just the 17th player in the modern era to to drive in double-digit runs in a game.
That's right: a 10+ RBI game has happened only 17 times in the last 126 years. It's more rare than a perfect game.
And, before Tuesday, it had never been done by anyone wearing a Pirates uniform.
The franchise's previous highwater mark for RBIs in a game was nine, a record that Johnny Rizzo had held since 1939. But now, that distinction belongs to O'Hearn.
How epic was this performance? His batting helmet from Tuesday's game is on its way to Cooperstown.
And it also inspired this hilarious, tongue-in-cheek sound bite from Pirates ace -- and pitcher of record -- Paul Skenes:
SU
Isn't it hilarious how random and unpredictable baseball is? Before this season, O'Hearn had never driven in more than four runs in a game in nine years in the big leagues, and had never recorded a three-homer game.
In fact, he hadn't recorded a two-homer game since 2019.
Now, though? He's got a spot in the annals of baseball and Pirates history.
Wild.
