Description
The second Lenten conference focuses on the battle against the "false self"—that distorted identity shaped by pride, laziness, and fear, which resists full surrender to God. True holiness requires overcoming this inner rebellion, which manifests in three key areas: the mind, where distraction, doubt, and avoidance of spiritual truths weaken our faith; the senses, which seek comfort, pleasure, and indulgence instead of discipline and self-denial; and the will, which clings to attachments, bargains with God, and fears total abandonment to divine providence. While self-discipline is necessary, victory is only possible through grace, which we receive through prayer, the sacraments, and devotion to Our Lady. Ultimately, the key to overcoming the false self is surrender, not self-sufficiency—entrusting ourselves entirely to God, who alone can make us saints. If we embrace this path, Lent will not only purify us but prepare us for the joy of Easter, when, having died to self, we will rise with Christ to new life.
