It marks International Women’s Day, and the programme prepared by the Town Hall will run throughout the entire month, in fact it is already underway. The institutional manifesto will be read by Lucía Cruz, a medical student, and the local round table against gender violence will also meet once again. A major facelift is on the way for Avenida del Mar, one of the town’s most emblematic locations and one of its most visited spots. The Town Hall plans to enhance the area while also resolving the problems of water leaks and damp that have been damaging the basins of the fountains that are currently out of use. There was a great atmosphere throughout Thursday at the Congress Palace. It was an important day for many people who came in search of a job. A new edition of the Employment Fair brought together dozens of companies offering vacancies. For hundreds of people, it may well have been the first day of a new chapter in their lives. JUEVES 2 The section of the seafront promenade between Río Real and Río Verde is set to undergo a renovation of its lighting system. Power outages had become a fairly common sight there, caused by an installation that had become outdated. Its proximity to the sea has not helped either. Work to build the new sports facilities in Guadaiza, including a certified athletics track, continues at a good pace despite the recent rainfall. The City Council has highlighted the nearly 12 million euros being invested and says the complex will become one of the city’s most important sports facilities. Construction is currently around 10 percent complete. The Arcos Blancos Neighbours’ Association in San Pedro Alcántara has organised a creative writing workshop for children. It’s a great way for them to spend their free time with an activity that is both fun and educational. The workshop will provide the basic skills needed to start writing their own stories. While Marbella’s Town Hall has organised a full programme of activities to mark International Women’s Day, the international community here on the Costa del Sol is also marking the occasion with its own events and gatherings. One example is a special International Women’s Day yoga and brunch taking place at the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella, the food’s delicious so very much looking forward to that. Another well-known initiative comes from Costa Women, a network that supports and connects international women living and working in Spain. Now in its thirteenth year, the Make It Happen Conference, has become an established event to conmemorate International Womens day and an important meeting point for entrepreneurs, professionals and creatives to share experiences, exchange ideas and inspire one another.
