Fishing Line: The Invisible Threat That’s Everywhere

We don’t always have a clear view, but experience tells us: if there’s a group of seals, there’s likely an entangled one among them. So we chase anyway, and it usually pays off. Today, Hawain spots a seal with a massive tangle of fishing line wrapped around her neck. Not only could she hurt herself, but she could easily entangle others too. This is the invisible threat in our oceans: line, rope, nets, and gear left behind by the fishing industry. Seals can’t see it, can’t escape it, and can’t defend themselves against it. If you care, skip the fish.
