On Thursday, the five-time former MP submitted his nomination at the district administrative building in Baharampur. Before filing his nomination, he wore a crown at the party office and even cut a cake at the request of Congress workers. Tension spread in Baharampur when Adhir Chowdhury arrived to submit his nomination. Accompanied by party workers and supporters, he went to the District Magistrate’s office. At that time, Trinamool Congress supporters lined the streets chanting slogans like “Joy Bangla” and “Trinamool Congress Zindabad.” In response, Congress workers raised slogans in support of Adhir Chowdhury. Due to the heavy crowd of Trinamool supporters on the road, Adhir Chowdhury was forced to halt for some time. Congress leaders and workers eventually pushed through the crowd and escorted him into the district administrative building. However, the nomination process concluded peacefully. After nearly 30 years, Adhir Chowdhury has once again filed nomination for an Assembly election. In 1991, he contested from the Nabagram Assembly constituency but lost. He contested again in 1996 from the same constituency and won by around 22,000 votes. Since then, he has only contested Lok Sabha elections.
