Description

For this episode, which is the concluding part of our 3 part Vijayawada series, we explored the bustling lanes of One Town, Vijayawada with our host Suraj. Walking through crowded markets, old establishments, temple streets we visited some much loved local food joints that continue to feed the city every single day. We began the morning at Kanaka Durga Temple. Before the food trail truly began, we stopped for laddoo prasad, soaking in the energy of the temple and the steady stream of devotees passing through. Our first food stop was Rajasthani Tea Stall in Kaleswara Rao Market. Surrounded by the movement and noise of One Town, we stood with glasses of strong kadak chai in hand watching the neighborhood slowly unfold around us. From there, we headed to Srinu Hotel near Samarangam Chowk for breakfast. Plates of steaming idlis arrived topped with podi, hot ghee, chutney, and a generous spoonful of white butter slowly melting into everything. The food was simple, comforting, and full of the kind of honesty that makes small tiffin spots unforgettable. No food walk in Andhra feels complete without sweets, so our next stop was Sri Saibaba Pure Ghee Sweets & Bakery in Tarapet. The counters were lined with tempting snacks and mithai. We tried their soft motichoor ladoos and rich anjeer bites, both carrying that unmistakable richness of pure ghee. A short stop at Vijaya Dairy Parlour followed, where we tasted palakova. Thick, creamy, and deeply comforting, it carried the kind of old fashioned sweetness that instantly brings a sense of nostalgia. One of the most memorable parts of the tour was our visit to Le Godavari. The place brings together several traditional Andhra snacks and tiffin preparations under one roof. We tried a lavish platter featuring aaviri kudumu, vada, minapattu, upma, and pesarattu accompanied by multiple condiments that added layers of spice, tang, heat, and texture to the meal. We ended the tour at Thoda Tiffins with their nimmakaya idli. Soft idlis coated with the bright, citrusy flavors of lemon made for a light yet satisfying finish to the walk. This episode is not just about food but also about the character of One Town itself.
