Goldilocks birds’ new home is just right

Seven male Plains-wanderers are hot footing it through protected grasslands on Barapa Barapa Country in Victoria’s Northern Plains, where they’re hoped to win the affections of wild females. The Critically Endangered birds were bred as part of a conservation breeding program at Werribee Open Range Zoo to supplement existing populations, which have reduced by 85 per cent over the past few decades. There is estimated to be fewer than 1,000 adult birds left in the wild. Zoos Victoria is a zoo-based conservation organisation, fighting for a future rich in wildlife.
