Description

High in the Peruvian Andes, life is shaped by altitude, drought, and the constant struggle to survive in one of the harshest inhabited landscapes on Earth. Along the canyons of the Apurímac River, Quechua families live from small potato fields, livestock and ancient traditions passed down through generations. Water is scarce, pastures are dry, and every resource must be used carefully. Families raise alpacas and cattle, preserve potatoes through the ancient process of chuño, and walk for hours across the mountains to tend animals or reach school. Children help their parents from a very young age, while elders pass on the knowledge needed to survive at over 3,500 meters above sea level. Nothing is wasted in these isolated communities. The q’oya grass used to rebuild the famous Q’eswachaka bridge is also turned into ropes, tools and cheese molds. In this demanding environment, survival depends not on abundance, but on ingenuity, solidarity and endurance. A powerful portrait of everyday life in the Andes, where people continue to adapt to a land that gives little, but still sustains entire generations. Documentary: Q'eswachaka.
