Goddard Glossary: Deep Field

Cosmic blast from the past! 🌌⭐️ On today’s Goddard Glossary, we’re taking a closer look at deep fields – a long-exposure image that can detect faraway cosmic objects. Specialized telescopes, like Webb and Hubble, must first take multiple exposures of a small, specific area. Then the different exposures are combined, revealing galaxies and celestial structures that could otherwise be too faint to detect or see in detail. Deep field observations allow us to study galaxy formation and evolution, unlocking the secrets of the early universe.
