Description

The Artemis 2 astronauts are the first to travel to the Moon's sphere of influence in more than 53 years and that means needing spacesuits to meet the challenge of keeping them alive, should the worst happen. All four crew members - Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen - were outfitted with custom flight suits, formally called Orion Crew Survival System (OCSS). These special garments are outfitted with a series of features designed to keep these crew members alive in the event of an emergency, like a sudden loss of pressure in the Orion spacecraft. One of these suits flew with a mannequin inside during the Artemis 1 mission in November 2022, but the Artemis 2 mission will be the first where these suits will be involved with protecting astronauts. If needed, they are outfitted with the ability to keep the crew alive for about six days. This coverage is made possible by the support of our members.
