Description
How to reuse an interior door jamb after moving a doorway while keeping the original character of the home.
Instead of installing a brand new frame, I reused the existing interior door jamb after relocating the opening. These doors and jambs have years of natural wear and patina, and reusing them helps everything continue to match the rest of the cottage trim and finishes.
To reinstall it securely, I first used a Milwaukee finish nailer to hold the jamb pieces in position. Once everything was aligned, I drove GRK screws to pull the joints tight and seat them flush. Adding wood glue to the joints gives long-term strength and helps prevent movement over time.
This method keeps the original look, saves material, and still gives you a solid, professional install when renovating older spaces.
