A visão humana evoluiu para identificar uma pequena parte desse espectro (as cores). Não é coincidência. Nossos ancestrais vieram da água, foi lá que a maioria dos olhos se desenvolveu. O espectro visível, aquele que compõe o arco-íris, é o tipo de luz que mais tem facilidade de adentrar os oceanos. Darwin e Einstein foram um dos precursores dessa explicação. A visão humana tem seus limites, porém. O céu terrestre não é azul, e sim violeta. Nós enxergamos esse tom azulado devido a uma ilusão de ótica conhecida como dispersão Rayleigh - um fenômeno que explica a relação entre luz solar e as moléculas da atmosfera.
